My Top 5 Tropical Island Wedding Shoots of the Decade, #2: Captiva Island

A custom one-of-a-kind Carolina Herrera gown did not stop this bride from kicking off her shoes and getting her toes into the sand on Captiva Island. Though this sophisticated couple was from New York they wanted to host a tropical destination wedding that felt different and special. A historic resort, that was originally a coconut and key lime plantation, was the perfect setting for their joyful and elegant day.

Their ceremony was held on a gorgeous lawn overlooking the water. They had a local island florist fashion their own creations that drew inspiration from their surroundings. A starfish theme was woven throughout their floral designs and decorations. Pale blue sunglasses were passed out with the programs to make guests comfortable in the sun.

As their wedding photographer, I was privileged to be able to get quite a bit of time for photos immediately following the ceremony. The newlyweds left the wedding party behind and we hopped into a golf cart to take photos all over the island. We captured the wedding portraits at one beautiful location after another.

The island reception was held in a historic tin roofed building that was surrounded by a beautiful veranda. Their first dance was a fun and joyful expression of their love that really kicked off the party. The dance floor was packed all evening and the party went into the late hours of the night.
